Advent Mission Campaign
During the season of Advent, please help us bring hope – and humanity – to those who are suffering in Israel and Palestine, those who are being crushed by medical debt in this country, and those in our area who are struggling to provide Christmas gifts for their children.
Our Advent Mission Campaign – Emmanuel’s Heart: Humanity in Action – focuses on three nonprofit organizations:
- RIP Medical Debt has eliminated nearly $10.4 billion in medical debt for more than 7 million families since it was founded in 2014 by two debt collection executives who wanted to make a difference. But there’s still a long way to go. Every day, 1 in 2 Americans choose between paying medical bills and covering basic needs.
- Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) is working with partners on the ground to provide humanitarian assistance in Israel and Palestine, including medical supplies, shelter, WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene), food and non-food items, mental health and psychosocial support, and more.
- Social Service Association (SSA) of Ridgewood and Vicinity, a food security organization based at the Ridgewood Train Station, distributes gift cards, toys and other holiday items to families with school-aged children who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford presents.
Will you help us reach our goal of raising $45,000 by Christmas Eve – $20,000 for RIP Medical Debt, $20,000 for PDA and $5,000 for SSA?
Thank you so much for your support!
Blue Christmas Service - December 6
The holidays can bring us down, especially if we're coping with the death of a loved one, life after divorce or separation, the loss of a job or anything else that puts a question mark over the future. Join us in the sanctuary on December 6 at 7:30 pm for an evening of live music, meditation, prayer stations and candle lighting as together we make space for whatever you are feeling this season. All ages are warmly welcomed to this gathering of remembrance and hope. Come early to walk the labyrinth. Light refreshments will be offered following the service.
The Women of Advent Bible Study - December 12 and 19
The Bible's "Christmas" stories feature several fascinating and important female characters: Elizabeth, mother of John the Baptist; Anna, daughter of Phanuel; and of course, Mary, the mother of Jesus. We'll look closely at the narratives involving these characters with special attention on the role of Mary in the history of Christian spirituality. Join us on Zoom December 12 and 19 at 7:00 pm.
