Partnering With Paterson
Just six miles from West Side, the pandemic has left a trail of devastation in Paterson. Paychecks, if they exist, don’t stretch nearly as far, forcing residents to make heartbreaking choices. Already vulnerable children have fallen behind in school. And for the homeless, finding a warm place to sleep is more challenging due to high demand in local shelters. These are just a few of the heavy burdens that our neighbors are carrying every day.
That's why, during the four weeks of Advent, we are challenging members and friends of West Side to raise $55,000 (or more!) for four mission partners that are helping to ease some of these burdens: City Relief, Eva’s Village, New City Kids and Oasis.
Please prayerfully consider donating to our Advent Mission Campaign by Christmas Eve. You may give online or place an offering envelope in the plate after worship. Thank you in advance for your support of this program and the ministry of West Side Presbyterian Church, serving northwest Bergen County since 1912.
Advent Sermon Series: What Can't Wait?
Advent is a season of waiting, but is idle waiting what God wants of us? In preparation for the coming Messiah, let's wonder together. What things can't wait? What demands our immediate attention? What requires our work and preparation? What is it that God can't wait for? Is it our praise, reconciliation and proclamation? Is it the end of suffering, isolation and fear? This Advent, we invite you to imagine, prioritize and prepare. As we wait, what can't?
New City Kids - December 18 at 9:00 am
New City Kids, one of our Advent mission partners, will be the "house band" at the Contemporary Worship service on December 18 at 9:00 am! You don't want to miss the joy, love and energy that these talented youth bring to their worship songs.
Christmas Pageant - December 18 at 10:30 am
Be part of this annual West Side tradition - the "Pop-Up" Christmas Pageant on December 18 at the 10:30 am service! No advance preparation is needed. Just come to church 15 minutes before the service starts and pick up a costume (animals, wise men, shepherds, angels). Children of all ages - preschool through 7th grade - will be invited to participate in the interactive telling of the Christmas story. Adults get to participate too - from their seats!
Birthday Party for Jesus - December 18 at 11:00 am
After the Christmas Pageant, we'll head to the lower level to celebrate Jesus' birthday with carols around the piano, crafts, cupcakes and more. Bring the whole family...and feel free to invite your friends!
