Earth Day Celebration
April 23

Join us as we celebrate the One who created the earth and calls us to love it as God does

Sermon Series

As Christians, we learn that God breathes life into earth and Jesus teaches us to be humble, which means to "live close to the earth." In his two-part sermon series, kicking off on April 23, Pastor Marc will explore our two-fold call to be Earthy Christians, people who are "lovers of the earth" and offer others "down to earth" love.

Sunday School

"Community Garden: Growing From the Ground Up" is our Sunday School theme for the month of April! Children will explore how Jesus gave us the ultimate example of humility, showing us how to serve others by putting them first. Sunday School takes place during both the 9:00 am and 10:30 am services.

Garden Blessing

Join us for coffee/fellowship hour by our Community Garden after the 9:00 am and 10:30 am services on April 23. We'll also bless the garden for the coming season (the harvest benefits the Center for Food Action and Social Service Association of Ridgewood and Vicinity), and children will have a chance to plant sunflowers to take home.

Earth Day Concert

Carla Auld and the UpTown Flutes will perform specially selected instrumental and choral works and readings in celebration of Earth Day, including For the Beauty of the Earth by John Rutter and Il Gardellino by Antonio Vivaldi for flute and harpsichord. Join us in the sanctuary on April 23 at 3:00 pm...or watch the livestream! The concert is free; donations are appreciated.

Plastic Bag Recycling

Don't throw away your produce bags, bubble wrap, newspaper sleeves or dry cleaning bags. Bring them to West Side! Drop your clean, dry, recyclable plastic bags (see below) in one of the white bins located in the lobby and narthex. Your donations will be turned into an eco-friendly Trex bench for our Community Garden!

Food Collection

The vegetables grown in our Community Garden are donated to local food pantries, which we also support year-round with donations of nonperishable food. When grocery shopping, please pick up some extra items (canned tuna and chicken, pasta sauce, boxed milk, canned tomatoes, jelly, rice, cereal, oatmeal, coffee, tea) and drop them off in one of the wooden bins located in the main entrance to the church.
