The West Side Concert Series welcomes a performance by the country's oldest and best-known collegiate a cappella group - the Whiffenpoofs of Yale - on April 6 at 3:00 pm.
Founded in 1909, the Whiffs began as a senior quartet that met for weekly concerts at Mory's Temple Bar, the famous Yale tavern. Today, the group has become one of the university's most celebrated traditions.
Every year, the storied singing group (which admitted its first female member in 2018) tours the world, performing in prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Kennedy Center. They've sung for royalty and five U.S. presidents and have been featured on popular television shows such as The Sing-Off, The West Wing, The Today Show, Gilmore Girls, Saturday Night Live, and Glee.
In their trademark white bow tie and tails, the elegant ensemble sings a diverse repertoire of jazz, folk, pop, and Broadway hits from across the decades. Each performance ends with the iconic "Whiffenpoof Song," which has been covered by Elvis Presley, Bing Crosby and Rudy Vallee.
