Beethoven's Ninth

Beethoven's Ninth

April 22, 2022 7:30pm

Join us for a performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony: A Kiss for the World featuring the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, New Jersey City University Concert Choir and West Side Presbyterian Church Choir.

The ninth was the last of Beethoven's symphonies, completed three years before his death in 1824, and it was the first symphony to incorporate vocal soloists and chorus into what, until then, had been purely an instrumental genre. The words sung in the final movement were taken from the poem "Ode to Joy" written by Friedrich von Schiller in 1785, a work that has symbolized hope, unity and fellowship across borders and through conflicts. It became the official anthem of the European Union in 1985.

Dr. Robert Prowse, conductor; Justyna Giermola, soprano; Apryl Helder, mezzo-soprano; Adam Herskowitz, tenor; David Langan, bass-baritone

Admission is free. Parking is plentiful.
